In Madeira, ER101 is one of the most curious and dramatic Portuguese roads and the route to the north is considered one of the most "spectacular" in the world. Dramatic and demanding like few, the ER101 is a road that has to be done at least once in a lifetime.
The ER101 was built after the Second World War, it is part of the return to the island and, although it is already a secondary route in part of the route, it is the "definitive" road to know the coast line to the north. A new route was built, wider and safer, with a series of tunnels between São Vicente and Porto Moniz, but the old road is still there for our visit.
