Q´eswachaka is a suspension bridge that was exclusively for Inca pedestrian use. It is still preserved, conserved and rebuilt every year. This ancient bridge is a palpable example of Inca architecture, it is built on the imposing Apurimac River.









The Q'eswachaca bridge is a rope suspension bridge made with ichu, located over the Apurimac River in the Quehue district, Canas province, Cusco region. 110 kms southeast of the city of Cusco (1 hour 30 minutes by car). It reaches the town of Combapata from where you have to travel 31 km to the suspension bridge (45 minutes by car). The bridge measures 28 m. long by 1.20 m. Wide.



Approximately 1,000 community members from Winchiri and Perccaro participate in its annual reconstruction. It leads to the realization of social encounters between both communities. Its construction is carried out under the communal participation system called ´´mink´a ”group work that has existed since Inca times.



The dimension of the bridge is 33 m. long and 1m20 wide. The material used is only wild straw from the punas. The central date is the second Sunday in June. It lasts three days and the fourth day concludes with a folk festival demonstrating the good relationship between communities and the exchange of music, dances and typical food.
