It was created by the Simón Bolívar administration in 1826 as a Commercial or Transit Village. In 1908 it was elevated to the category of city.







Juliaca is a city in southeastern Peru, capital of the Province of San Román (Department of Puno), located at 3824 meters above sea level on the Collao Plateau, northwest of Lake Titicaca.



Its main activity is commerce. Due to its geographical location, Juliaca is the essential step for travelers who travel by land in the region: Puno, Cusco, Arequipa, Lima, Bolivia. It has almost all means of transport. The Inca Manco Cápac International Airport houses the longest runway in Latin America, with 4200 m; It also has train and bus service.







The name of ´´Ciudad de Los Vientos´´, is due to the fact that in much of the year there is the presence of winds because it is located in the middle of the plateau of the high plateau, it is a flat city, so in winter time it feels all the harshness of the highland winter.



It is also called ´´Ciudad Calcetera´´, because traditionally its inhabitants are dedicated to making socks or socks, as well as sweaters, scarves, ponchos, hats, gloves, etc., made of alpaca wool fiber, sheep, etc., the same ones that are generally sold in a gallery located in the Plaza Bolognesi. These garments are used by its inhabitants and visitors, to counteract the high plateau cold.



It is also considered ´´Capital of Andean Integration´´ as it is one of the most economically capitalized cities due to its high transfer of merchandise. It is an epicenter of merchandise in southern Peru.



Its most important festivals: San Sebastián on January 20, the carnivals, celebrated before the Easter festivities, and that of the Virgen de las Mercedes, on September 24.
