Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Acropolis Hill is a limestone plateau that overlooks the city of Athens from 156 m.

At 300 meters long and 85 meters wide, this enclave contains the most famous monuments of classical Greece: the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea and the temple of Athena Niké. The temples, the work of architects Calligrates, Ictinos and Mnesicles, under the supervision of Fidias, were built in white marble in the Doric and Ionic styles.

The Acropolis of Athens can be considered the most representative of the Greek acropolis. The acropolis was literally the upper city and was present in most Greek cities, with a dual function: defensive and as the seat of major places of worship. The Athens is located at the top, which rises 156 meters above sea level. It is also known as Cecropia in honor of the legendary snake-man Cécrope, the first Athenian king.

The entrance to the Acropolis is through a large door called Propileus. On the right and front side is the temple of Athena Niké. A large bronze statue of Athena, made by Phidias, was originally in the center. To the right of where this sculpture was located is the Parthenon or the Temple of Athena Parthenos (the Virgin). To the left and at the end of the Acropolis is Erechtheion. On the southern slope of the Acropolis are the remains of other buildings, including an open-air theater called Dionysus Theater, where Sophocles, Aristophanes and Aeschylus debuted.

Most of the great temples were rebuilt under Pericles' leadership during the Golden Age of Athens (460-430 BC). During the 5th century BC, the Acropolis adopted its definitive form.

The Acropolis was a large center of worship, located at the top of the city of Athens, where the Greeks revered their gods and celebrated the events that occurred in their history. Acropolis etymologically means "city on top" because it is on top of the city. This place is (although it has been damaged by time and the hands of modern man) full of statues and figures on the walls that represent all kinds of scenes from Greek mythology. The most important place on the Acropolis is the Parthenon, which is a temple dedicated to the guardian goddess of Athens: the goddess Athena. Inside this temple is an exhibition of the great sculptural, aesthetic, architectural and mathematical ability of the Greeks.
