"Althof" can be translated into English as "the Old Yard". It used to be a city castle in the Middle Ages, and as such it was a centre point of the city administration. Nowadays the old traditions mingle here with modern trends in a sensitive manner - with a great deal of feeling and love in terms of detail.
The region of Retzer Land offers a wide range of attractions focused on wine and wine-making. You can see the biggest wine cellar and also the oldest wine barrel of Austria. You can admire the most beautiful lane of wine cellars in the whole of Weinviertel and of course take part in a wine festival or pop in any of the numerous wine shops. Our remarkable inner yards beckon all guests to relax. Be it on the hotel patio in the Great Inner Yard surrounded by arcades or on the romantic Castle Courtyard - you can relish or you can sit and dream. Aged walls seem to prevent any noise from penetrating inside. The peace and quiet at Althof are unrivalled.
Our lovely Leisure Centre with a sauna, a steam bath, a solarium, a whirlpool, an infra-red sauna and a meditation room opens out through historic city walls into romantic castle gardens.
